The Lions, who finished fourth at the end of the regular season, are riding massive momentum following back-to-back wins this Pascoe Cup finals series, and Galvin’s certain his troops are “up for” the decider.
“I think all the fellas are up for it, we celebrated after the win last week, but we’ll be up for it. Everyone will be fighting fit,” Lions skipper Brad Gavlin said.
Boasting an enthusiastic player group with an average age of less than 20, the Lions are preparing for Football Wagga’s biggest game of the year like any other match this season.
Galvin said they’ll take a “nothing to lose” approach into the match.
“Lake Albert are undefeated. It was only us and Wagga United that got a draw off them. I think we can sneak a result like we did last weekend, we have nothing to lose,” he said.
“It’s massive for us, our average age I think is 19. We have that many good youngsters we though it might take a few years to get going. We wanted to make finals, which is top six, so to finish fourth, beat Henwood Park and make the grand final, it’s awesome.”
It’s been a remarkable campaign for the Lions in 2018 after finishing as wooden-spooners last year.
Galvin identified the work of coach Mark Mellish, and the fact the club has a second grade this season, as two major influences to the side’s success.

“I think definitely having a coach like Mark has helped. We had a player-coach last year, so I think having someone on the outer looking in has really helped,” Galvin said.
“Having the two grades has really helped as well. We only had one last year and we were pushed for numbers each week and we had a lot of people just not turn up and that sort of thing.
“We have 16 that could all start, that’s a really good thing about this year.”
The match is set for a 3.30pm start on Sunday at McDonald Park, Wagga.
