The old adage notes that ‘it is better to give than to receive’. And while the members of the Rotary Club of Young have built their club upon a strong foundation of helping others, many acknowledge there are also a great many benefits for those who are part of this movement.
I thought there must be more to life than just watching TV and going to the gym.
- Jenny Somerset
Cliff Sheridan: “You don’t realise the personal value of being a member of a close knit group until you try it, and the satisfaction of being part of a huge successful humanitarian organisation.”
Jenny Somerset: “Rotary can be life changing with the things you can do: work on an overseas project, work with youth in our community, or travel overseas with friendship exchange. There are so many amazing projects to be involved in. You also know that your time and money goes 100 per cent to our charity without overheads deducted.”
Have fun, join in - it is the doing that is so good.
- Sue Gordon

Murray Napier: “We have an opportunity to serve the community in a respected organisation and make new friendships … become better at public speaking and be involved in areas of Rotary at a district level (ranging from various sports to district administration and travel).”
Roz Hill: “Giving back to the community of Young is very rewarding and along the way I have made many new friends that I know I can rely on for support.”
There are many reasons people, just like you and I, decide to give back and become Rotarians:
Cliff Sheridan: “Firstly for fellowship, but I quickly realised the important community and humanitarian work carried out by Rotary.”
Jenny Somerset: “I had just moved to a new town and hadn't met many people. I thought there must be more to life than just watching TV and going to the gym. Being an empty nester I had a desire to give back to the community and went looking for a club to join that I could do this.”
Roz Hill: “I was asked to join at a stage in my life when I was looking for a new direction.”
Rosalie Byrne: “I had an interest in Rotary – it’s values and traditions, how it prioritises through strategic planning what causes in the world should be supported and how that filters down to the various Rotary clubs.”
Do you want to give back to your community and make a real difference in the world? Now’s the time to join like-minded others and become a Rotarian.
