If you’re thinking about filling up the tank before leaving town this weekend think again with Young’s petrol prices on average sitting at least 10 cents a litre dearer than neighbouring towns.

E10 unleaded fuel on average is sitting at 157.9 cents a litre at the majority of Young retailers, this is compared with only 129.9 cents a litre at the Metro in Cootamundra, 146.9 cents a litre at the Metro in Murrumburrah and 149.9 cents a litre at the Mobil in Boorowa.
Premium 95 and 98 prices are even higher in Young, though there is not as big a gap in the pricing as the E10 with Young residents paying on average 171.9 cents a litre at most local retailers for Premium 95, however it is still cheaper to fill up out of town.
Cootamundra Metro is charging 149.7 cents a litre, BP in Harden 166.9 cents a litre and the Mobil in Boorowa charging 169.9 cents a litre.
Prices locally for Premium 98 are split with two retailers in Young charging 177.9 cents per litre and two others charging 179.9 cents per litre, these are compared with the price at South West Fuels in Cootamundra of 152.9 cents per litre and Harden charging 168.9 cents per litre.
The news on the diesel front isn’t any more impressive with Young’s prices once again higher than surrounding towns.
The cheapest place to fill up with diesel in Young is at the Metro with 161.9 cents a litre, however down the road at Cootamundra they are only paying 149.9 cents a litre at South West Fuels, 154.9 cents a litre at the Metro in Murrumburrah.
Premium diesel in Young is sitting at a better price comparatively selling at the majority of Young retailers for 163.9 cents a litre, but travel to Cootamundra and motorists are only paying 156.9 cents a litre at Caltex Woolworths before the discount and 159.9 cents a litre at the Mobil in Boorowa.
As of Thursday, according to the Fuel Check website set up by the federal government the average price for E10 is 132.9 cents a litre, the average price of premium 95 is 151.8 cents per litre, premium 98 is 157.4 cents per litre, diesel is 159.4 cents per litre and premium diesel is 158.9 cents a litre.
Fuel prices in Young have remained high since they jumped nearly 20 cents a litre on the first Monday in May.
This time last year locals were paying on average around 136 cents a litre for E10.
