Hilltops Tourism and Events manager Mel Ford, along with representatives from a number of businesses in the region, represented the Canberra Region Tablelands at an event hosted by Destination NSW and Tourism Australia at Destination NSW headquarters at The Rocks in Sydney on Thursday, February 21.
The region's tourism representatives were given 10 to 15 minutes to deliver presentations tailored to a number of different teams within Destination NSW and Tourism Australia.
"We presented to various departments including teams working in marketing, trade and industry development, event development, destination development and international tourism," Hilltops Tourism and Events manager Mel Ford said.
It gave the representatives from the Hilltops a chance to network with people, create connections, promote tourism, and remind Destination NSW of the product that attracts thousands of people to the Hilltops region.
"It was all about putting our region on the map. We want the team of Destination NSW to help do this." Ms Ford said.
"We also want to remind Destination NSW that the Hilltops region hosts an array of amazing events.
"Everyone knows the National Cherry Festival is held in Young, which is the Hilltops region.
"The Running of the Sheep in Boorowa and the Kite Festival in Harden which attracts thousands of people, are in the Hilltops region."
She added that it was important to have industry representatives including Brian Mullany from Grove Estate Wines in Young, Karen Kemp of the Light Horse Hotel and Heggaton artHouse Apartments in Harden-Murrumburrah and Kate Hufton of Jugiong's the Sir George Hotel attend and help promote and build the region.
"It's the first time we've done this as the Hilltops Region," Ms Ford said.
"It was a really great opportunity and worthwhile activity."
Business owners from the Yass Valley also attended to help promote the Canberra Region Tablelands.
The Canberra Region Tablelands includes Hilltops, Yass Valley, Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan towns of Gunning and Crookwell, and the Queanbeyan Palerang Region.
