The founding president was Mrs Margaret Davis MBE.
Through the Garden Clubs of Australia Inc, Margaret was instrumental in establishing the Remembrance Drive, which runs between Sydney and Canberra, along which rest areas to commemorate our Victoria Cross heroes, one of whom is a native of Young, have been placed.
In 1952 the name was changed to the Garden Club of Australia.
In 1968 a Federal Committee was elected (all volunteers) and the following year a constitution was adopted.

In 1992 the club was incorporated and in 1998 the 's' was added to to the name to better reflect its status as an umbrella organisation.
Currently this parent body has 718 affiliated clubs comprising of 45,000 individuals all sharing the motto Friendship Through Gardens.
This year the Young Garden Club Inc will hold its 40th anniversary celebration at Clifton House and Gardens. The president of the Garden Clubs of Australia Inc will be one of our guests.
We hope to combine this celebration with a Friendship Day shared with members of other nearby affiliated clubs.
Details will be discussed and finalised at future meetings.

During our March meeting we welcomed two new members, Estelle and Debbie.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at the Catherine McAuly Centre commencing at 7pm. The guest speaker will be Ken Langton. Ken will be speaking about the types of roses, bush, standard, climbing etc. He will tell us when to to grow, prune and care for these beautiful plants, as well as answering any questions put to him.
Everyone is welcome to come, relax, share friendship, listen to Ken and enjoy a variety of delicious home cooked goodies.
