Young let in five tries to three in the 26-18 loss to Wagga Kangaroos at McDonalds Park in Wagga. Jonty Langfield was a standout crossing for two tries. Jewitt said Young completed six of 15 sets in the opening half.
"We turned the ball over too often. We dropped the ball too frequently early in the tackle count," Roy Jewitt said.
"Defence close to our line was disjointed, but the effort in defence was really good.
"We really need to start better, lift our completion rate and slow the play-the-ball. We can match teams in defence it just comes down to who holds onto the ball."
With two key man down and out early, Wagga's Glen Dumbrell was thrilled to take a 26-18 win.
"They dug right in for one another and it was just all effort," Dumbrell said.
"That is all it came down to - effort - and they all stuck in, took the hard hits and played as a team.
"It was unreal with just 15 players and a reduced interchange. I'm very happy with that one."
Lachlan Cuell crossed for a hat-trick including two tries in the first eight minutes.
In the lower grades Young's league tag, reserve grade and under 17s won while under 19s suffered defeat.
