Kevin said he was "shocked" to receive the Citizen of the Year award at the recent Lions changeover dinner.
"It's a real shock. There's people in Young who do a lot more," he said.
"I was looking around the room and there was all these people who are volunteers and I thought 'how could you pick me out?'"
Kevin is the chair of the Community Arts Centre in Young, treasurer of the Lambing Flat Folk Museum and has volunteered for many more community groups and organisations over the years. He and his wife Marilyn moved to Young from Canberra in 2005 and since then he's been volunteering his time wherever he can.
Lions Club of Young member Marie Tame explained that the award recognises a member of the public who isn't involved with the Lions Club.
She said Lions Club members identify people who put in the "hard yards" in helping the community.
"It's awarded to a person who does really good work in the community and may not get the recognition. There's a lot of people in Young who go under the radar and may not be recognised.
"He certainly puts a lot of effort into our community and was a worthy recipient."
