Ebraham Elniz, 32, was convicted at Young Local Court on Tuesday, July 16, on a charge of intimidation relating to an incident on June 16 this year.
According to police facts, Elniz, who appeared in court via audio visual link from jail, told the victim over the phone "I'll shoot you" and "slit your throat".
Police say multiple phone calls took place with Elniz threatening the victim on each occasion. Police obtained information and arrested Elniz at Young Police Station on June 24. Elniz's solicitor said he "knows there's no excuse for his behaviour".
Magistrate Michael O'Brien labelled Elniz's actions as "inexcusable under any circumstance".
"No matter what people say or do, what you do is completely under your control," he said.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended under the condition he doesn't reoffend and enters an intensive corrections order with conditions to abstain from alcohol and drugs and participate in counselling until no longer required.
The correction order he was subject to was revoked and reimposed.
