A MOTORIST allegedly caught travelling at more than 50km/h above the signposted speed limit has had his licence suspended and number plates seized.

NSW Police officers were patrolling Mary Gilmour Way at Coolamon during Operation Chrome at 6.40pm on Friday when a car caught their attention.

"Police detected a Toyota Hilux driven by a 22-year-old male travelling at well in excess of the 100km/h speed limit," officers said in a statement.

"Police caught up to the vehicle and measured his speed at 152km/h.

"The driver was stopped and spoken to by police."

The driver had his licence immediately suspended for six months and was issued a $2482 fine for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

His partner was allowed to drive the vehicle home.

On Sunday the vehicle's number plates were handed in and seized by police, they will be held for three months.
