According to the source, who wished to remain anonymous, a patient presented to the Emergency Department with an item inside their body.
The source said some of the staff from the hospital were taking photos of the x-ray, laughing and joking about the patient and the situation they had found themselves in.
The source also alleges some of the staff were then gossiping with other patients and members of the public and showing them the photos of the x-ray.
The source came forward in the belief the activities were not only inappropriate and completely unprofessional but that they were a massive breach of the patient's confidentiality and privacy.
"The only people who should have known were the doctors and nurses who were treating (the patient)," the source said.
"It was no one else's business."
The incident had been reported to another local hospital.
"Nothing has been done at all," the source said, but The Young Witness can confirm that an internal investigation is underway.
The Young Witness contacted Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) in regards to the allegation.
"Murrumbidgee Local Health District has been notified of a possible breach of a patient's privacy," a spokesperson said.
"An internal investigation commenced immediately upon notification in accordance with NSW Health privacy review guidelines,' the spokesperson said.
"The findings and recommendations of the internal review will be referred to the NSW Ministry of Health and the NSW Privacy Commissioner."
According to MLHD all hospital staff are bound by privacy legislation and a strict code of conduct to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
"Dismissal of staff is a likely outcome if allegations are substantiated," the spokesperson said.
