The vicious Vikings dominated the field as only Vikings can with their vivacious young players running all over the field as if they thought they'd come to an actual raid.
Running away with their Viking loot were Kerri Palmer, tapping in a pass from Dave Webster at the last second, Dave making sure he claimed one of his own not long later. James Cronin, and Michael Adams claimed their treasures to much celebration from their horde, while Sarah Harding and Declan Laybutt proved themselves Viking Warband leaders with two goals each.
All of this was despite the very best defence Penguins can buy with a fantastic home security system in the form of Paul Gruber. Smaller Gruber, Chloe, even managed a goal of her own, but this was not enough to beat back the voracious Vikings and the final result was 8-1.
The Badgers badgered DTS in the second game for the day, and goals were handed out like lollies flung freely from a sweaty Santa atop a slow-moving firetruck.
The first half of the game was peppered with penalty corners and passing and it was Badger Brady Kenny who scored the first goal with the second shot from one of those aforementioned penalty corners.
Stuart McKenzie decided he wasn't okay with that and went straight back up the field to take a goal for DTS with a great hit.
Brady bounced back for the Badgers to finish a goal following some sweet passing up the field by the rest of his team, and then Stuart took it upon himself to even the score with another for DTS.
Have you noticed the pattern yet? Let's have another example. The next goal was again scored by Badger-boss Brady Kenny, displaying some mighty fine skills in the circle, and then Stuart took another for
DTS by showing Brady some of his own brilliant skills. At this point the halftime whistle sounded and both teams staggered to have their short break while discussing the even scores before the second half started. Breaking the pattern, Kelly Day took a goal for DTS off the post, before Brodie McKnight took a powerful shot through the DTS defence to bring the Badgers back to even once more.
The next came unsurprisingly from Stuart after some great passing between himself and Michael Skillen in the circle, before, yet again, Brady did his thing for his Badgers twice in a row to take those Badgers into the lead. It wasn't long before the end by now, and just to make sure of things, Brodie seized his next chance at a goal to take the Badgers to their 7-5 victory over the determined DTS.
Sunday proved as excitement filled and fun as all previous Sundays with the Super7s happening once again after last week's break.
Sirius took on the Delta Force first up with a game dominated by long sweeping passes and frantic sprints to chase down errant balls. Ryan Laybutt was majestic in taking his goal, while Declan was similarly effortless in his skill displaying and double goals for Sirius.
Apparently Scott Murray ran like an eagle (if eagles were known for running) to score his goal for the Delta Force, and Amy Harding finally managed to get the ball into the goal after she and Loren Wilkinson had been passing the thing back and forth across the goal face all day. In the end, Sirius defeated the Delta Force 3-2.
Hitting Divots did battle with Plan B in an energetic and highly entertaining game as the afternoon began to cool. The first goal for the game went to Soup-erstar Campbell Cummins with much trickery and cunning skill, taking the Hitting Divots into the early lead before Plan B sent Regan Bannister in to even things up, and he did so with determination from the edge of the circle. Kate Richard stepped up to do her part for Hitting Divots by hitting an excellent goal off of a clever pass from
another member of her team, and then James Cronin scored once again for Plan B, this time up against Liam McLachlan, which is no mean feat. Hockey-beast Chloe Gruber took her goal for the match and Hitting Divots after a run up the field to receive a great pass, and then team leader Liam ran away with his goal. The final scoring for the game was achieved by Edwin Kwan for Plan B from a short corner, bringing the final numbers to 4-3 in favour of Hitting Divots.
The final game for our Sunday afternoon was between the All Sorts and Roadside Sushi. It was a fast paced game played in the spirit of great hockey, and fun was had by all who set foot onto the field.
The All Sorts put in a great effort, working wonderfully together as a team and developing their blossoming skills, while Roadside Sushi put them to the test. The Sushi took goals thanks to Hayley Gruber, fiercest of the Sushis, with two marks beside her name, as did Jesse Thorpe, while Matt Hall seized one of his own. This proved enough to secure Roadside Sushi the win 5-0.
The draw for tomorrow's SWSCU Winter Hockey comp is as follows:
2PM Badgers v Vikings (Penguins/Redbacks)
3:15PM Penguins v Redbacks (Badgers/Vikings)
