While the season is expected to be in full swing at the usual time of mid-November, warm conditions may bring the beginning of harvest forward.
"We'll be in full in swing by 10th, 14th of November right across the district," NSW Cherry Growers Association committee member Scott Coupland said.
Mr Coupland grows cherries at Yarrawa on the Olympic Highway outside Young towards Cowra.
He said cherry tree blossoms are surprisingly strong this season, and bees are busy, which usually results in quality fruit and size.
He added that dry conditions will increase the amount of fruit acceptable for the market.
"I think the blossom looks a lot better than last year. I thought it'd be weaker this year because it was so hot last year. We did get a few summer storms though. Looking at the blossom and leaf it's looking really good I think.
"With the forecast dry, we'd all like to see a couple of inches between now and start of harvest, I think it means we'll have high packout rates and good quality fruit."
He said many growers are learning to manage hot, dry conditions.
Other challenges this year include a potential lack of labour, competing with other fruits on the market and increased export costs.
He said the Federal government strengthened security screening requirements during March to make sure no dangerous items make their way into flights leaving the country.
"It's going to cost about $2 a case more going through metal detectors and things," Coupland said.
"We're expecting it to be hot. Backpackers aren't used to putting up with the elements they'll be putting up with here. If the season compresses there'll be a high demand for labour," he added.
"Another impact is other domestic products on the market at same time like mangoes and things."
In the industry, the summer fruit season is said to open when the first cherry case is auctioned at Sydney Markets.
"We're looking forward to a good season."
