Sue has been volunteering for various organisations since moving to Young in 1984, leading the establishment of the Brock Street Preschool Kindergarten in 1988 and Annette's Place Preschool and Childcare Centre.
She was a councsellor with Nursing Mothers' Assocation, was elected state treasurer of the Isolated Children's Parents' Association and received life membership of the Lone Member Branch.
From 1997 to 2008 she was director of the Young Rural Lands Protection Board, held executive positions on the South West Slopes Sheep Breeders Association between 1998 and 2019, and joined the Young branch of Rotary International in 1996.
Sue said volunteering is "hugely satisfying".
"Really, I think rural Australia wouldn't be here without volunteers," Sue said.
"Volunteering is a very important part of rural Australia. It's hugely satisfying because firstly you get to see the fruits of your labour, like the preschool, or whatever it may be. You meet different people you may not come across in your everyday life, and you can also have a lot of fun."
She said she was humbled to receive the award.
"There's many 1000s of people who could be getting this award. I'm just lucky someone has put my name forward," she said.
She thanked Sally Martin and Ross Baldwin from the South West Slopes Sheep Breeders Association for their nomination.
Seventy-eight women across the state were added to the honour roll.
