Inspector Jacob Reeves of Young Police is urging motorists to drive to conditions and be aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic, as well as road closures in place for Young's National Cherry Festival celebrations.
Mounted police from Redfern will be in town on Friday and Saturday, while police from Goulburn will also bolster police presence during the festival celebrations.
"We would ask anyone living in the area or travelling to the area for the festival to watch closely to road closures and drive to conditions with the increase in cars as well as people around roads and crossing roads," Inspector Reeves said.
"We hope we get through the weekend safely with no crashes and with no one booked."
Road closures at the Anderson Park entertainment area outside the railway station and between Lynch Street and Lovell Street started Thursday from 6am and will remain in place until 5pm on Sunday.
Ripon Street will be partially closed from 6am Friday until 5pm Sunday for the Heritage Rally.
During the firework display from 8pm to 10pm on Friday, Nasmyth Street between Zouch Street and Lynch Street will shut, while Lynch Street between Lovell and Edwards Streets will be closed. Lovell Street between Zouch Street and Main Street will also be closed at this time.
From 7am and 4.30pm on Saturday the Auto Pro car park will be closed from Boorowa Street to Rosemary Lane.
Boorowa Street from Zouch to Thornhill Streets will close from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday for the festival parade.
A number of connecting roads will close to be used for marshalling from 2.30pm to 5pm. For more information on the road closures visit the Hilltops Council website or contact the Visitor Information Centre.
