David received the major title on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Park following the street parade, while Brianah Griffin picked up Charity Queen for her fundraising efforts.
He said following the announcement he was in shock.
"I'm very shocked, but I'm absolutely ecstatic. This means a lot to me and the community. We all look after each other and get behind one another it's amazing. I'm in great shock really," he said.
David praised the work of Cherry Queen contestants Brianah Griffin, Kate Cruickshank, Laura Ower and Tasman Coulter.
Between the five of them more than $60,000 was raised through community events during the months leading up to the festival. Charities supported were Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network, Lions Club of Young, Margaret House Refuge, Men's Shed and CanAssist.
"I'm very proud of the other contestants Laura, Kate, Brianah and Tasman, they've done an absolutely amazing job and the community should be very proud of them," he said.
President of the National Cherry Festival committee Caitlin Sheehan congratulated all entrants.
"They all should be very proud of their achievements and no matter the outcome they have been wonderful ambassadors for our festival and region," she said.
"They've been judged at numerous events over this period and raised money or their chosen charities."
David urges people to get involved next year as either a Cherry Queen or Cherry King.
"I encourage anyone to enter next year and enjoy the experience," he said.
"The festival this year has been the biggest and best I think and I've lived here all my life. It's certainly one of the best I've seen, if not the best. Hopefully it helps make the Hilltops area bigger and better in the future."
