Clayton takes on world record

Young shearer Josh Clayton during March last year attempted to break the solo eight-hour merino ewe shearing world record.

He was challenging the record of 466 ewes which has stood since 2003. He fell short by just 14.

His word record attempt raised a significant amount of money which went directly into raising awareness for Motor Neurone Disease.

Owner of Youngstar still pinching himself

Brickie from Young Jack Sheather and owner-breeder of the Chris Waller-trained Melbourne Cup runner Youngstar was again trackside at Flemington Racecourse for the 2019 edition of the race that stops the nation.

Youngstar was the first horse Jack sent to a sale.

He and his wife Karen were in Melbourne for the Cup to witness Youngstar run 20^th. It was Youngstar's second Cup.

Nayah Freeman injured

The Cherrypickers first grade side were dealt a huge blow during April last year when they received confirmation fullback Nayah Freeman required surgery after breaking his shoulder.

Freeman was contesting an aerial kick when he fell awkwardly on his left shoulder during the first half of Young's round two Group Nine loss to Gundagai at Alfred Oval.

Blake Hewitt's return

Young Cherrypickers early last year received a boost with the signing of 2018 Bathurst Panthers Group 10 premiership winner and Cherrypickers junior Blake Hewitt.

Hewitt returned to the Cherry Capital after six years playing in Canberra, England and last year with Group 10 premiers Bathurst Panthers. The Pickers missed the finals in 2019.
