According to data from the Bureau of Meteorology the temperature in Young hit almost 45 degrees on Saturday January 4 beating out the previous record for the month of January as well as the hottest day ever recorded.
The previous record in Young for January was on January 26, 2019 when the temperature hit 43.5 degrees with the previous hottest day ever recorded only last month on December 21, 2019 of 44.1 degrees beaten by the January 4 temperature.
The temperatures beat out all recorded temperatures from the Young Post Office and the Young Airport making it officially the hottest day since records began in the town in 1871.
The record breaking trend appears to be becoming more frequent in Young with the 2020 temperature the third time the record has been broken since February 2017 when the temperature hit 42.3 degrees 0.3 degrees higher than the 2004 record.
