NRMA with NSW Police representatives and Bill Ottey from Bill's Bus Service delivered the message to close to 200 students from the town's primary schools in an effort to get young children thinking about bus safety.

Mr Ottey spoke about securing seatbelts, sitting correctly and remaining seated throughout the journey, reducing noise, keeping body parts inside the bus at all times, correctly storing school bags, eating and drinking on the bus and more.

He also spoke about the 40km/hr warning lights on the front and back of the bus.

Senior Constable Karen Clark from Young police encouraged the children to learn their bus driver's name, and discussed "safe people" and "safe places" to go to if they get on the wrong bus.

"There's lots of kids that get on and off at different places, and buses look very similar," she said.

The kids were given a ride on the bus and for some it was their first time ever.
