Lucy decided it was time to do something after walking through empty aisles at a supermarket in Young this week.
The Facebook group she's created is called Young NSW and Surrounds Grocery Swap.
She says it's a place to go to if you're in need of certain supplies, have information on what supermarkets are well-stocked, and if you're willing to share or swap.
She said it's not a buy, swap and sell page, but a way to help people who are struggling to purchase items due to "panicked coronavirus shopping".
"There was not much there," Lucy said noting her recent shopping experiences.
"I walked down the nappy aisle and thought I'm happy I'm not needing nappies. I work in health and a lot people need certain items, some people can't live without some items. And things are probably only going to get harder before they get easier.
"My cousin started a similar group in South West Victoria where I grew up. I was invited to the group but there wasn't much I could do from here. Soon after that I went shopping and it was pretty bad so I decided to make this group.
"This is a way to connect as a community and help each other out. It provides a safe place to do that without feeling threatened or targeted."
Lucy says she's new to town and wouldn't know who turn to if she was in desperate need of a certain shopping item.
She believes there's many people in Young and surrounding towns who are in the same position without family or friends to help them.
She explained how she hopes it works.
"A lot of people when I created the group were talking about people with diabetes who need a certain amount of carbohydrates. So if there's a shortage on bread this will provide somewhere where they can connect with someone who has bought lots.
"People might need certain medical items. Maybe you have something at home that you don't need but could be essential to someone else in our area.
"For those who are embarrassed or shy to ask for a particular item, please direct message me and we can make an anonymous post on your behalf."
She said posts will be monitored as it's not a space for negative talk.
"The feedback has been very positive, nothing negative. All posts are checked to eliminate any bad language or offensive comments or comments that are off topic. This isn't a space to talk about what's wrong. Supermarkets are working hard to do the best they can," she said.
"This is a place we can connect without feeling threatened or targeted."
