"Young District Hospital is well prepared to care for people who may be diagnosed with COVID-19," Young Hospital Facility Manager Belinda Downey said on Wednesday.
Ms Downey wanted to assure local residents that not everyone will need to be hospitalised with the virus.
"People with mild to moderate symptoms can be managed at home with the support of their GP and Murrumbidgee Local Health District's virtual health services," she said.
"Those who are more unwell may be admitted to an appropriate local hospital. Our Base Hospitals are equipped to support people with severe COVID-19 symptoms."
Ms Downey said the hospital and Murrumbidgee Local Health District have plans in place for the event of COVID-19 making it into the Hilltops region.
"We have plans in place for the treatment and care of any one who may have contracted the virus and needs to be admitted to our hospital. An isolation area has been identified and we are well supported on the ground by teams of infection control personnel.
"District speciality infection control nurses are out and about in our hospital providing support to front-line staff to maximise the safety of our healthcare workers and the community."
Ms Downey wants residents to also be aware to only believe reports from legitimate sources such as Murrumbidgee Local Health District or NSW Health.
"We have heard rumours of unverified reported cases. Spreading misinformation about COVID-19 is dangerous and only the facts should be told," she said.
"We ask members of the public to remain calm and be vigilant in their hand hygiene and practice social distancing."
Members of the community are asked to please follow the advice given by NSW Health authorities and stay up to date with what's going on the website at: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/diseases.
