This is the first time that a student from Hennessy Catholic College has been nominated for this award.
Amy was nominated by her hospitality teacher Miss Worner and careers adviser Mrs Parkman, following her outstanding results in her preliminary HSC hospitality studies completed in 2019.
Amy's application was submitted during March this year.
It required her to answer several questions about her hospitality studies, her community involvement as well as submitting photos and course results.
The Riverina-Murray vocational education and training committee interviewed Amy last week and she was advised that she had been selected as a finalist.
All finalists from Riverina-Murray region will go on to represent this area in the state finals.
Sadly, Amy won't be able to go to the awards night in person due to coronavirus restrictions.
However, Hennessy Catholic College wishes her luck at the virtual presentation where the winner of the VET in School Student of the Year category will be announced.
Amy's hospital teacher Miss Worner congratulated her.
"Amy is a diligent student who has worked extremely hard, it is wonderful to see Amy get the recognition she deserves for all her effort," she said.
Amy said it was an honour to be nominated.
"It was an honour to be nominated by my teachers and chosen as a finalist, it's been a fantastic opportunity and I am very excited about the finals," she said.
The VET in Schools Student of the Year award is open to full-time Year 11 or 12 school students undertaking accredited vocational education and training as part of their HSC studies.
