One volunteer, Sue Hardy, has been coordinating bingo sessions every week for about 18 years. Sue says loves the time she spends at Mount St Joseph's.
"I love the residents. It's great to get them out of their rooms and have a bit of a joke. It's a pleasure to be there every Wednesday for bingo. I love helping older people," Sue said.
Sue started in July 2002 and quickly began running the bingo sessions. The coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately, has stopped Sue from attending for the past five weeks.
"We set them up in the big recreation room, we play for one hour, we have a joke and a laugh. The winners get a chocolate or a bag of lollies I've picked up. We have a great time. It's a really happy atmosphere. It's been five weeks since I've been up there I can't wait to go back."
Sue has done extensive volunteering across Young over many years and has received awards, including the 2014 Young Lions Club Citizen of the Year.
Mercy Place Mount St Jospeh's Shelley Gledhill congratulated Sue on her many years of support.
"Sue is is an invaluable asset to the community and the residents can't wait until she's back on deck calling bingo again," Shelley said.
