Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the $3.6 million project was the second stage of a project to improve safety on a 2.4km section of the highway between Old Monteagle Road and Apps Lane.
"This section is in need of an upgrade after a review identified safety concerns due to the rough surface of the ageing road," Ms Cooke said.
"The first stage of the project was carried out last year and involved upgrading an 800m section immediately to the west of Apps Lane by widening the road, improving the road surface, installing safety barriers, upgrading signage and removing trees to reduce the risk of a crash.
"The project will continue the upgrade along a further 1.6km section, and will reduce ongoing maintenance costs by preventing further deterioration of the road surface.
"This stage of work will support 20 jobs, using local workers and Transport for NSW staff."
Work starts on Monday, July 27 and will be carried out between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. It is expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place during some stages of the project for the safety of workers and motorists, including traffic control, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h during work hours.
Access to nearby properties may also be restricted at times, and Transport for NSW will consult with affected property owners to minimise this disruption.
Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra time.
