'We will take action': police warn pubs, clubs to be vigilant

In this week's councillor column published on council's website, mayor Ingram urged locals to stay home if they have symptoms or suspect they may have been in contact with someone who was exposed to the virus.

"Our businesses are doing a great job adapting to the ever changing environment and I commend all business owners who have registered their business as COVID-Safe," mayor Ingram said.

"To protect ourselves and others we all need to maintain social distancing and strict hygiene practices."

Police in the Young Sector are turning their focus on COVID requirements in licensed premises.

Inspector Jacob Reeves said police will be visiting licensed premises frequently to ensure all rules are being followed.

"Whilst the Hilltops and Weddin local government areas haven't had any new cases of coronavirus, we wish to ensure licensees and the community are being vigilant and following the requirements of Public Health Orders," he said.

Venues are limited to the lesser of 300 persons or one person per four square metres, must support physical distancing, have sign in registers and a COVID-safe marshall if required.

"My aim remains to work cooperatively with licencees, their staff and the community to ensure these requirements are met so that the health and safety of our venues and our towns are maintained. I do not wish to see a cluster emerge in any of the licensed premises within our local government areas. Whilst I hope the need does not arise, we will take action should the circumstances dictate," Inspector Reeves said.

Meanwhile, NSW health authorities urge all residents to consider following tighter restrictions.

Despite the continuing legal limit of 20 people, Dr Kerry Chant on Monday said residents of the state should not host or go to a gathering of more than 10 people at home.
