During the last rounds of rain a number of locals have reported they have recorded up to 30 or 40mm more in town than the BoM's station at the airport
"The current station is 10km out of town, how is it giving an accurate reading of what is actually going on in Young?" one local questioned.
"I understand the airport needs a station out there but how it can be used to accurately record what is happening in Young is beyond me."
According to the Bureau they have 1000s of automatic weather stations/rain gauges across the country which record rainfall, temperature, pressure, humidity, wind direction and wind speed.
"Many are located at airports in line with the aviation industry," Wagga BoM Acting Officer in Charge Nigel Smedley said.
"Airports are also generally open area's with no hills or buildings around them which would obstruct readings."
According to Mr Smedley the station in Wagga is also around 8km from town at the Wagga Airport with most air fields further afield than 'town'.
