Hundreds of people gathered at the Ploughmans Rest Tavern Hotel in Wongarbon on Saturday in a bid to support charity organisation Doin' It For Rural Kids, which has a goal this year to provide struggling families with a Christmas they deserve.
The Mystery Ride and Music Evening fundraiser event for Doin' It For Rural Kids commenced with a 250 kilometre motorbike ride which was organised by Central West Riders.
Each rider contributed $30 to participate in the ride which started at Robertson's Motorcycle Club in Dubbo and ended at the Ploughmans Rest Tavern Hotel in Wongarbon prior to an afternoon festivities.
Doin' It For Rural Kids founder Jason Owen hosted the event which included an outdoor concert which kicked off at 3 pm, raffle draws, free face painting and an auction, as well as many other activities.
Mr Owen said the fundraiser has enabled them to be able to provide support to even more kids and families across Australia this year in the lead up to Christmas.
"Rural Aussie kids, in particular, have had a really hard time this year with the drought, bushfires and economic fallout from COVID-19," Mr Owen said.
"They're well in need of support.
"This year we are looking at assisting families and hundreds of kids across the country giving them a Christmas they deserve helping those families in need.
"Our fundraiser at Wongarbon has enabled us to be able to reach more families and kids this year."
Mr Owen said the support the event received from the community on the day was "mind-blowing".
"We couldn't have asked for a better turn out," he said.
"And a big thank you to Central West Riders for supporting our charity."
Mr Owen launched the charity last year in a bid to provide further support to struggling families and kids across rural areas, as he knows the hardships all to well having grown up in the Central West himself.
"The support the charity has been receiving this year alone has been mind-blowing," he said.
