A new 43-metre-long bridge will allow for higher mass limit vehicle access and enhanced road safety.
Tender for construction will be available early next year with construction to begin after the tender process, according to a Hilltops Council spokesperson.
The existing Wambanumba Creek Bridge has been out of action since October, 2018, following a short period of traffic restrictions and heavy vehicle detours due to structural cracking found in September 2018. Motorists have been navigating a sidetrack detour since. Steph Cooke MP announced $1.2m for the replacement bridge in January, 2019.
"This is such a fantastic upgrade because it means 2000 heavy vehicles a year will not have to make a time-consuming and costly detour. The new bridge will allow heavy vehicles weighing more than 10 tonnes to travel on the most direct route between Murringo and Young for the first time in years, making freight movements more efficient" Ms Cooke said at the time.
Approaching two years since that announcement, council has finalised plans and are set to go to tender.
Meanwhile, design for the Milvale Road b-double and decoupling bay project between Penrose Bridge and Chillingworks Road is set to be reviewed by Transport for NSW in early 2021.
The works are set to commence in the middle of next year, according to a Hilltops Council spokesperson, after the design and tender process is finalised.
Council received $950,000 federal government funding in September 2018 to go towards the Milvale Road upgrades, however the project wasn't fully funded until June this year.
"The heavy vehicle rest and decoupling area on Milvale Road will also be an important step to enhance heavy vehicle users' safety along the route," Riverina MP Michael McCormack said back in September, 2018.
