Hosting Condobolin at Cranfield Oval, the Yabbies will be looking to start the season with a victory in front of their home crowd.
Yabbies men's pre-season included a trial against Wagga Waratahs and a solid hit-out at the Boorowa Goldies Rugby Festival, which including wins over Orange City and Orange Emus.
Coach Ned Mullany said he's not too sure what to expect in Saturday's season opener.
"The boys are as ready as they can be but it's very hard to tell how things are going to go in the first round. We'll still be a bit rusty, no doubt. As long as we play with the right attitude I'll be happy. We'll give it everything but I don't expect to be at our best. We want to be getting there mid-season," Ned Mullany said.
"The trial against Wagga was a good blow-out and the following week at Boorowa we had some good results. We had wins over Orange City and Emus but couldn't beat Harden. I told the boys the results didn't really matter, it was good fitness and good to get that contact."
After last year's defeat in the decider against Harden, the Yabbies are a little lighter on in 2021, Mullany said.
"It's not like last year. We were a bit spoiled for choice. We certainly have a side but there's not as many numbers," he said.
Other men's sides include Boorowa, Harden, Grenfell, West Wyalong, Cootamundra, Temora.
The ladies have a tough assignment first up taking on defending premiers Condobolin. The women's competition this year includes four teams Young, Condobolin, Temora and Harden.
Action on Saturday begins with the women's match from 2pm before the men at 3.15pm.
Next Saturday, the men's side takes on Grenfell at Grenfell, while the ladies have a bye.
