After 10 years of providing ongoing chemotherapy treatment, the Young Oncology Unit required a refurbishment to meet Work Health and Safety Standards.
"Fundraising efforts from the community of Young dating back to 2004, held in trust by Young Auxiliary, has allowed refurbishment of the oncology unit to accommodate improved storage for chemotherapy medications, new medical equipment, medication stock, and management of sterile stock. This means increased safety and comfort for both staff, and consumers receiving treatment" acting facility manager Katrina Green said.
"The refurbishment cost of $8000 is a significant contribution, and reflects the commitment of the community to ensure the Oncology Unit continues to deliver high quality care, and meet safety standards, as they are updated," chairperson of Young local health advisory committee Fiona Douglas said.
