The project is funded under phase two of the federal government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI), of which council was allocated $1,672,314.
About 1600 streetlights will be converted to LEDs.
This is forecast to substantially cut energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"There'll be a very big saving on electricity costs over time which is great," general manager Anthony O'Reilly said.
Essential Energy will begin the project in November, 2021.
LRCI funding will also go towards further work on Young CBD footpaths, drainage works in Harden, and roadworks in Boorowa.
