It was just last weekend that the women’s soccer team had gone undefeated in four back to back games, playing exceptionally well.
The women have enjoyed their good numbers for this year’s soccer and it has really shown on the field with their performances all season.
The women’s team managed to lock down fourth place on the table just before the finals.
The final game of the regular season saw the Lionesses travel to Wagga Wagga this past Sunday morning to take on the Junee team.
Junee was sitting on the top of the ladder, barely having been beaten all season.
Lionesses coach, Jemma Long was thoroughly impressed with how the girls worked together on the field to produce the best game they could.
“This game will be a yardstick for us before finals as they have been the best team all year,” Jemma said.
“They beat us 6 nil in the first round.”
Young enjoyed the early possession and have shown Junee that improvements have in fact been made by the girls from earlier on in the year.
However, although the Young women’s team bought their absolute best to the field, Junee came out a little too strong, taking Young out 2-0 by the final whistle.
“That was a fantastic effort by the girls and I could not be happier,” Jemma said.
“The game showed that we have gotten closer to them and we pushed them today.”
No matter the result the ladies will finish no lower than fourth place, ensuring them a strong semi final position the following week.
Michaela Hall was also unfortunately unable to score during the game.
For Michaela, this means that she finished third on the goal scorers list for the women’s competition this year.
Michaela’s total of personal goals remain at 22, still such an incredible effort.
This weekend on Sunday morning the Lionesses will take on Wagga Wagga’s United.
Although it is an elimination final, the club could not be prouder of how the girls have come together and worked this year as a team, pushing forward through all and any obstacles thrown at them.
The Lionesses pride themselves in teaching, inspiring and encouraging Young’s younger soccer girl teams to give it their absolute all in every single game they play.
The women of the Young’s Lioness soccer team are ecstatic with qualifying for the finals in fourth place.
A huge congratulations goes out to the women’s soccer team and good luck to Lionesses for their games to come in the finals.
