Dawn Marchant hosts 17th straight Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council's research

Locals were welcomed between the hours of 9am and 2pm to make a donation to the annual Cancer Council fundraiser and enjoy a coffee or cup of tea, and a variety slices, biscuits and cup cakes.

Dawn began hosting a Biggest Morning Tea in 2003 after her husband passed away following a battle with cancer.

"I lost my husband with cancer. And my youngest daughter was sitting here with me one day and they were talking about it [Biggest Morning Tea] on the wireless and she said 'Mum that's what we ought to do'," Dawn said.

"I said well I'll open the house and you can do the work, which they have done."

Dawn's Biggest Morning Tea brings the community together and raises about $1500 each year for Cancer Council's research.

"If I only make five dollars at least it's a help. It doesn't matter what it is, it all helps. We've been doing this for a number of years now," Dawn said.

Dawn receives support from her daughters who prepare an amazing spread of morning tea treats.

She said the support of the community is fantastic.

"The first year I think it was $800 or so, we've been getting over $1000 so it's really good," Dawn added.
