A group of more than 20 locals have banded together to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave this weekend.

The group of colleagues, friends and various family members, who will be colouring or shaving their hair, have also organised an event for the big day this Saturday, all with the purpose of helping to fight leukemia and cancer.

According to one of the fundraisers, Tash Downes, the group of more than 20 have all been touched by the deadly disease with close friend and fellow fundraiser, Liz, having battled the disease and is currently in remission.

However, that wasn't their sole motivation in taking part in the event.

"Everyone knows someone who has been effected by either cancer or leukemia, this is our chance to do something about it," Tash said.

One of the team members will even be waxing his eyebrows off for the event.

The event is scheduled to be held this Saturday.
